The myth of the freshwater Gorgons dates back to the Isle of Wight in the United Kingdom. According to the legend, the Gorgons were three sisters, who were all monsters. They were Medusa, Stheno, and Euryale. In Isle of Wight myth they are described as terrible monsters with hair made from writhing, venomous snakes, along with golden wings, boar-like fangs, scaly skin and long tongues. The Gorgons were said to be able to turn anyone who looked into them into stone. The freshwater Gorgon is a legendary creature that still intrigues many today.
