Why We Quit (or Never Start) – and Why SAOR Fitness is Built to Smash Those Barriers

Why We Quit (or Never Start) – and Why SAOR Fitness is Built to Smash Those Barriers

We all know movement is good for us, but knowing and doing are two very different things. Plenty of us start strong, only to fade out after a few weeks. Some don’t even get going in the first place. Why?

Let’s break it down, then show you why SAOR Fitness isn’t just another class in the park. It’s something different.

🧠 1. Psychological Barriers – “I’m not fit enough” / “Everyone’s

watching me”

The problem:

People often feel judged before they even turn up. There’s the fear of being the slowest, the sweatiest, or the one who forgot how to do a lunge without collapsing. Add in the guilt of slipping off a diet or skipping a session, it becomes easier just to stay home.

The SAOR Fitness answer:

No mirrors. No posers. No one cares what you look like. Honestly, most people are too busy trying to breathe through their burpees to worry about your form. Whether you’re starting from scratch or storming ahead, you train at your own pace (ish), and if you wobble, you’re in good company. We’ve all stacked it on a muddy hill at some point.

We don’t do shame. Come as you are, hobnobs and all.

🏋️ 2. Motivational Barriers – “I’ll start tomorrow” / “This is boring”

The problem:

Sticking to a fitness routine is tough when it’s the same repetitive grind, surrounded by strangers and neon lights. If you’re not seeing fast results, it’s easy to say “sod it” and try again next Monday. Or next year.

The SAOR Fitness answer:

You want variety? We’ve got it.

  • Beginner sessions to build you up

  • Mixed workouts to keep it spicy

  • Extreme sessions (if you're into that sort of thing)

  • Hikes with cracking views and better banter than most chat shows

Plus, there’s something about doing squats in the rain that wakes up your soul. Add in a few birds flying overhead, a tree you didn’t see coming, and maybe a biscuit at the end, and you’ve got fitness that feels fun.

We make it easy to want to come back. And if you don’t? No pressure. Try again next week.

3. Practical Barriers – “No time, no money, no gear”

The problem: Gym memberships cost. Time is short. And don’t get us started on the guilt trip of skipping your overpriced PT session because your kid was off school or the car died.

The SAOR Fitness answer:

  • Free membership – one session a week, no strings.

  • £25/month – gets you eight sessions.

  • £40/month – go wild, attend everything.

No hidden fees. No lock-ins. No fancy kit required. Come in what you’ve got, even if it’s the same t-shirt from last week. We train outdoors. We care more about showing up than showing off.

And you don’t need two hours and a protein smoothie. You just need to turn up, move, and maybe laugh when someone slips on a rogue leaf (it happens).

🚫 4. Cultural Barriers – “Gyms aren’t for people like me”

The problem:

Mainstream fitness can feel exclusive — full of shredded 22-year-olds, endless selfies, and instructors who eat air and speak only in macros. For the rest of us? It’s alienating.

The SAOR Fitness answer: We’re not a gym. We’re not glossy. And we’re not interested in your body fat percentage.

We’re here for adults aged 30+ who want to feel better in their bodies, get outside, and have a bit of craic while doing it. It’s inclusive. It’s real. And we’ll never ask you to give up wine or biscuits. We might join you.

Final Word: At SAOR Fitness - No One Gets Left Behind

At SAOR Fitness, we know that fitness isn’t just about abs or achievements; it’s about consistency, connection, and not hating every second of it. We’re here for the ones who don’t feel like “gym people.” We’re here for the comeback stories, the just-starting-out stories, and the “this time I mean it” ones.

So if you’ve stopped, stalled, or never started, you’re in the right place.

Train outdoors. Whatever the weather. Build strength, not selfies.
